Between booking the next work meeting in the personal agenda and choosing your favorite playlist, this very useful feature is available for those who love to make their daily lives more hassle-free. This feature used by many people only requires downloading an IFTTT recipe and configuring it after connecting with its assistant.

If you have one of these two virtual helpers and don’t use this tool, find out how to join it in our walkthrough below.

What is an IFTTT recipe?

Before knowing how to install and configure the IFTTT recipe , it is necessary to be aware of what one actually is. Although the acronym appears to be somewhat more technical, IFTTT is actually simple.

These are the initials of “ If This Then That ” (“If this then that”, in free translation), which is nothing more than a system that performs functions on devices automatically from previously configured tools. With this feature, it is possible to perform tasks by triggering — or in this case more directly, speaking — the keywords, which range from warnings about the WiFi drop to mechanical commands, such as turning off a Desktop PC, as we will show below.

With a range available, the user can access and program their actions as and when they want and supervise them via the smartphone via the application. A beautiful facilitator and a treat for those who love technology that helps in the smallest details.

How to shut down PC using Google Assistant?

To be able to run this application, you need to:

1. Download and install the AssistantComputerControl (ACC), one software free open source that allows you to configure and connect its activities in the wizard Google . This is a program that works only on Windows operating system . In all, there are 31 actions available for configuration.

2. After installation, you need to connect the specific IFTTT recipe for Google Assistant to one of the script storage options, which is where the instruction will be activated on your computer after speaking with the assistant. The site presents as connection options Dropbox, Google Drive and OneDrive. Use Google Drive.

3. From the AssistantComputerControl main page , select “ Shutdown ” (the “ Shutdown ” option in English).

4. Enabling the Desktop shutdown mechanism has four alternatives: the traditional one , which will only shut down the PC; the forced , to shut down the PC even with applications or programs still open; the timer , in which it is possible to configure a countdown to shutdown; and, finally, the interruption of the shutdown

5. When you click on the desired option facing Google Assistant , a new tab should open and ask to connect with Google Drive. If you have already connected according to topic 2, the page will appear with the mark connected – or “ connected ”, as is the term in English.

6. With the Google Assistant app downloaded on your smartphone, you will receive a notification stating that an IFTTT recipe has connected to your device.

This way, it will be possible to perform the activity when saying “ Google, turn off my computer ”.

How to shut down PC using Alexa?

To shut down your Desktop using Alexa , the process is almost the same, except for the home stretch. Follow:

1. Download and install AssistantComputerControl (ACC) on your computer.

2. After installation, you need to connect specific IFTTT recipe to Alexa . The site presents Dropbox, Google Drive and OneDrive as connection alternatives for syncing. Use Google Drive .

3. From the AssistantComputerControl main page , select “ Shutdown ” (the “ Shutdown ” option in English).

4. Enabling Desktop shutdown mechanism has the same four options: traditional, forced, timer, and command interrupt .

5. When you click on the desired option facing Alexa, a new tab should open and ask to connect with Google Drive. If you have already connected according to topic 2, the page will appear with the mark connected – or “ connected ”, as is the term in English.

6. With the Alexa app downloaded on your smartphone, you will receive a notification saying that the assistant has identified an action like IFTTT. To create a routine in Alexa, enter the application, go to “ Routines ” and create a new one. Name the command and set it to happen when you say “ Alexa, shut down my computer ” and link the action that shuts down my computer in the “IFTTT” section. Save then.

It is important to mention that, in the list of IFTTT, all enabled schools are available on the AssistantComputerControl website . So, you can not only activate the predefined command options, but also create a brand new one and customize it however you like.

How to customize a new PC voice command for Google Assistant or Alexa

Access the AssistantComputerControl application creator page . Three blocks will be available for selection. At first, click Google Drive . In the second, click on your desired assistant. In the third click on “ Shutdown” (“Shutdown”). A fourth tab will be available. In it you’ll choose one of those four types of programming – from traditional to command interrupts.

This is a page to view and replicate applications on the IFTTT revenue site . When you choose the commands you want to check, the site automatically creates a personalized mini walkthrough for you to follow, ranging from command creation to folder naming in Google Drive .

Remembering that this is a 100% optional feature , since the main tools for activation are already available on the official AssistantComputerControl page that we detailed above. This is a space for those who like and want to create different mechanisms. The page is also entirely in English.
